URGENT SCHEDULE UPDATE (received from Council today, 4/30)

City Council Meeting -- April 30, Brazos Theater, Waco Convention Center

To speak to council (3 minutes), arrive at 5:45 pm for the 6:00 pm session.  Fill out a card at the table outside the Brazos Theater, and wait for your name to be called.  We wish to emphasize the urgency of the city working to mitigate climate change, why this matters (impacts of anthropogenic climate change), and why a climate denier like Bryan Shaw is NOT appropriate for a City energy consultant.
NO SRPAB Meeting May 2 -- Apparently too few Sustainability Board members were able to attend and the meeting was cancelled.  We will notify our members as soon as a new date is established.

Change In Monthly Meeting Dates

After voting at the April 16th meeting on various nights to hold future FOP/C meetings, it was determined that Monday nights were favored by almost everyone in the room.  It turns out that the 4th Monday of the month is available, so for May we will hold our meeting on the 27th on a trial basis.  The documentary for the month will be announced later.  We screen multiple films to bring you the best documentary available.

At the Downtown Farmers Market in Waco, April 20th, 9am until 1pm, Waco FOP/C gave away 386 reusable shopping bags and climate information cards.  It was a beautiful day!  Most shoppers gratefully accepted the bags and were interested in the climate mitigation ideas on the small handout.  We encountered no obvious climate deniers.

Reusable bags protect the planet from our horrendous plastic pollution & combat anthropogenic climate change (avoid fossil extraction, refining, transportation, and greenhouse gas (GHG) release from partial breakdown in landfill).

This was a wonderful annual experience of providing something beneficial for our planet completely FREE -- offered donations were not accepted.

Sincerest THANK YOU to our volunteers:  Harrison Ward, Adrian Northcutt, Richard Childers, Tom Rinard, Bonnie Rinard, Victoria Vasek & an additional lady whose name slipped my mind -- sorry.

Paris To Pittsburgh

Tuesday, April 16th
Poppa Rollo's Pizza
703 N. Valley Mills Dr.
6 PM: Pasta/Vegetarian Pizza & Salad Buffet
followed by business, film & discussion

Film runtime 60 min.

Business will include  Go Renewable Waco status, Earth Day, action review, next steps

Waco Friends of Peace/Climate has been selected to provide a special screening of the informative documentary Paris to Pittsburgh. The film brings to life the impassioned efforts of individuals who are battling the most severe threats of climate change in their own backyards.  Set against the national debate over the United States' energy future--and the Trump administration's explosive decision to exit the Paris Climate agreement--the film captures what's at stake for the communities around the country, and the inspiring ways Americans are responding.
A National Geographic production narrated by Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actress and activist Rachel Broshahan.

"...Paris to Pittsburgh serves as a compelling call to action and a persuasive rebuttal to the idea that saving the environment means sacrificing the economy." --- Physics Today

TONIGHT (April 2): MORE Voices at City Council

We created a powerful action 2 weeks ago with 12 speakers in succession at the Business Session of Waco City Council.

Several members plan to speak April 2, to continue the message that anthropogenic climate change is a global emergency, and that the City of Waco must step up NOW and take action on mitigation.

If you did not have an opportunity to speak on March 19, or wish to speak again,  please join us.

Arrive 5:45pm at the Bosque Theater of the Waco Convention Center, 100 Washington Avenue, Waco 76701.  If you park in the large lot behind the Center and Hilton, enter on the right side at the back (farthest from Hilton).  The Bosque Theater is seen immediately after entering the outside doors.  Fill out a request to speak card and enter the Theater (auditorium).  After about 30 minutes of business beginning at 6pm,  the comment segment begins.  Names are called from the cards.  3 minutes are allowed, and a yellow light on the podium indicates 30 seconds remaining.

PLEASE JOIN US.  This is an excellent opportunity for us to keep up the pressure on the City to join 100s of cities moving to decarbonize.  Since the Council people still do not seem to grasp the urgency of climate action, our voices for the biosphere are crucial.

Speaking at this forum is the right thing to do and also FEELS GREAT.
