Meetings are currently held on the 4th Tuesday, 6pm, at the South Waco Library, 2737 S. 18th St., Waco, TX 76706. CLIMATE CHANGE ART SHOW RECEPTION SUCCESSFUL

The reception Saturday evening, September 16th, was a definite success.  The restaurant venue at times was literally packed with people, such that moving around was difficult.  Yet everyone seemed happy to be there, joining in on the spirit of the night.  The only major problem encountered was a bit of heat in the crowded room, stretching the air conditioning to the max.  However, faster fan speed seemed to cool everyone a little and the fun was not dampened.
  
Over 100 guests were estimated to have participated in the reception.  The event consisted of art viewing; voting for favorite pieces; announcing the 1st thru 3rd place and peoples' choice awards; placing of ribbons on the winners; enjoying relaxing acoustic guitar by Frank Exum; tasting the variety of desserts, chips and salsa; and partaking of wine and soft drinks.

A raffle was held for four climate science book door prizes.  Free reusable shopping bags were available, as well as a climate action handout and (perhaps most important!) the 100% renewable Waco petition.

A fine climate poem was recited by Bodhi Heilskapa.

The winning artists were:
1st place -- "Pollution Baby" by John Ciaburri  (image above).
2nd place -- "The Escape Party" by Shawn  Knuckles.
3rd place -- "Saving Color" by Kathryn Ruth.
Peoples' Choice -- "Cedars" by Bodhi Heilskapa.
      
We definitely anticipate the 2nd Annual Climate Change Art Exhibit.  An issue of this magnitude deserves its own art show.
