COME TO INAUGURATION PROTEST JANUARY 20TH

The Waco Friends of Peace/Climate and multiple additional organizations will sponsor "UNITED AGAINST TRUMP: INAUGURAL PROTEST,"   6p.m., Friday, January 20, at Heritage Square, Austin Ave. and 4th St., Waco. Please join diverse individuals and organizations on Inauguration Day to protest the policy proposals and administration selections of the President-Elect.  We believe his agenda endangers our country on many issues: climate change, nuclear proliferation, civil rights, immigrant rights, women's rights, LGBTQ rights, minimum wage, economic inequality, healthcare, public education, and net neutrality.  We are deeply concerned about Mr. Trump's lack of qualifications, racism, xenophobia, misogyny, dishonesty, bullying, conflicts of interest, acceptance of sexual assault, and attacks on freedom of speech and on freedom of the press.

Join us for speeches of conscience, poetry, and music by Venus E, Tea Aguilar, and Stumblin' Jaxon.   We will turn a very dark day into a time to express outrage, display our signs, build unity, and amplify our inspiration for the hard work to come over the next 4 years.  We believe it is vital to express clear opposition to Trump's positions on nuclear proliferation and anthropogenic climate change. His proposals represent an existential threat to mankind.

Climate science indicates a global atmospheric limit of 565 gigatons more CO2 to keep global temperature increase to 2°C above the pre-industrial level.  At approximately 30gigatons emissions now, we have only 19 years to halt these emissions through conservation, conversion of our energy system to renewables, and regenerative agriculture.  Thus Mr. Trump's stated plans to return to CO2 intensive energy sources such as coal will severely imperil our ability to make the rapid transition to renewable energy.  In effect, Trump has placed oil company profits above the human need to maintain a livable biosphere.

Further, Mr. Trump has already demonstrated his total lack of concern about climate change and the environment through his nominees for administration positions.  Scott Pruitt, nominated for EPA Administrator, has been an enemy of the agency.  Rex Tillerson, nominated for Secretary of State, headed Exxon Mobile as it concealed climate science and funded climate denial organizations.  Rick Perry, nominated for Secretary of Energy, stated his desire to close the agency and is a supporter of fracking and fossil fuels over renewables.  Ryan Zinke, nominated for Secretary of Interior, has voted repeatedly against protecting our public lands from the fossil fuel industry.
