The Waco Friends of Peace/Climate and multiple additional organizations will sponsor "UNITED AGAINST TRUMP: INAUGURAL PROTEST,"   6p.m., Friday, January 20, at Heritage Square, Austin Ave. and 4th St., Waco. Please join diverse individuals and organizations on Inauguration Day to protest the policy proposals and administration selections of the President-Elect.  We believe his agenda endangers our country on many issues: climate change, nuclear proliferation, civil rights, immigrant rights, women's rights, LGBTQ rights, minimum wage, economic inequality, healthcare, public education, and net neutrality.  We are deeply concerned about Mr. Trump's lack of qualifications, racism, xenophobia, misogyny, dishonesty, bullying, conflicts of interest, acceptance of sexual assault, and attacks on freedom of speech and on freedom of the press.

Join us for speeches of conscience, poetry, and music by Venus E, Tea Aguilar, and Stumblin' Jaxon.   We will turn a very dark day into a time to express outrage, display our signs, build unity, and amplify our inspiration for the hard work to come over the next 4 years.  We believe it is vital to express clear opposition to Trump's positions on nuclear proliferation and anthropogenic climate change. His proposals represent an existential threat to mankind.

Climate science indicates a global atmospheric limit of 565 gigatons more CO2 to keep global temperature increase to 2°C above the pre-industrial level.  At approximately 30gigatons emissions now, we have only 19 years to halt these emissions through conservation, conversion of our energy system to renewables, and regenerative agriculture.  Thus Mr. Trump's stated plans to return to CO2 intensive energy sources such as coal will severely imperil our ability to make the rapid transition to renewable energy.  In effect, Trump has placed oil company profits above the human need to maintain a livable biosphere.
Further, Mr. Trump has already demonstrated his total lack of concern about climate change and the environment through his nominees for administration positions.  Scott Pruitt, nominated for EPA Administrator, has been an enemy of the agency.  Rex Tillerson, nominated for Secretary of State, headed Exxon Mobile as it concealed climate science and funded climate denial organizations.  Rick Perry, nominated for Secretary of Energy, stated his desire to close the agency and is a supporter of fracking and fossil fuels over renewables.  Ryan Zinke, nominated for Secretary of Interior, has voted repeatedly against protecting our public lands from the fossil fuel industry.
Speakers for the protest are an excellent and diverse group of community leaders:

    1.    Rebecca Farrar, Co-founder Baylor Feminists
    2.    Ernesto Fraga, Publisher of Tiempo

CAPE SPIN!:  AN AMERICAN POWER STRUGGLE is the Friends of Peace/Climate film for the month, something positive for the season and for these dark times.  The documentary tells the surreal, fascinating, tragicomic story of the battle over America's first offshore wind farm.  The film is the recipient of multiple film festival awards and the reviews have been superlative:

"Sober, lighthearted and even wacky."--The AP
   "Rollicking"--The Boston Phoenix
"Exasperatingly funny...Spin is a good yarn."--The Boston Globe

Friends of Peace/Climate members will recall the lecture and demonstration of this sustainable protein source presented by Nathan Allen to our meeting a couple of years ago.  Nathan's work is climate-related because of the difficulty of providing adequate protein to our warming world.  In fact, Nathan has agreed to provide us an update sometime in the future.  And to help advance his educational non-profit, he has recently conducted a fund drive.  If any of our members would like to help out, please go to www.littleherds.org.

WELLS FARGO Divest from DAPL Protest - December 10 in Waco

About 17 dedicated Waco Friends of Peace/Climate activists braved the cold in front of Wells Fargo Bank on Saturday, December 10th in a spirited action to pressure Wells Fargo to divest from investment in DAPL. The demonstration was witnessed by many Waco motorists.  There was great media coverage by TV channels 6, 10 and 25, with interviews largely focused on climate.

There will be a planning meeting for an inauguration day action on Monday, Dec. 12th, at 6 pm, in a private meeting room at the Summer Palace Chinese Restaurant, 1520 N. Valley Mills Dr. in Waco.  A buffet meal (at your cost) will be available.

Waco Friends of Peace/Climate will coalition with other progressive groups from Central Texas in order to plan a large rally/protest/march on January 20, Inauguration Day.  We will convert a day of mourning into a day of RESISTANCE and UNITY.  We know that Trump's plans on climate are especially deadly, so we must protest on this day. Please join us as we plan strategy for this protest.

PROTEST DEC. 10th -- Wells Fargo: DIVEST From DAPL

There will be a protest action on Saturday, December 10th, from 11 am until 1 pm, on the sidewalk in front of Wells Fargo bank, 1105 Wooded Acres Dr.

We have a victory with President  Obama's announcement that he will not grant the final easement for the DAPL and that an environmental study of the project routes will be undertaken, but we will continue the pressure.  We are in communication with Native American leaders and those planning actions in other Texas cities, and everyone plans to continue the protests.  We don't know the outcome of the route study, and of course, Trump will probably try to force pipeline construction no matter the study outcome.  Of course our goal is to STOP all new pipeline construction.

A large banner will be provided, and people should bring their own individual signs.  We will be there rain or shine -- our conditions could not possibly be as horrendous as those the water protectors in North Dakota suffer!
