Lecture by Jere Locke of the Texas Drought Project

Thursday, April 14, 2016
Poppa Rollos Pizza, Waco
6:00pm: Business and vegetarian pizza/salad buffet
6:30pm: Lecture followed by discussion

The April FOP meeting will feature a presentation by Jere Locke of the Texas Drought Project, entitled "WHY STOPPING THE PROPOSED GAS PLANT IS IMPORTANT.”  Mr. Locke's presentation will support our campaign to prevent construction of a new natural gas plant at Tradinghouse Lake near Waco.  He will provide background on the dangers of fracking, including GHG emissions, water use and destruction, and health hazards to those in the shale area.  He will also discuss renewable alternatives, and their emissions, water use, and health impacts.  Important data on the current costs of renewables vs. fossil fuels will be presented and will be useful to our project on Tradinghouse.

Mr. Locke has worked with the Drought Project for the last two years and also worked with the Austin Solar Sí-Gas No Coalition, which waged a successful campaign to utilize more renewables and stop a proposed Austin gas plant.  Thus the situation in Austin is similar to what we face in Waco.  Please attend for the education and help us honor Mr. Locke with a sizable audience.  FREE lecture and pizza/salad buffet.
